The Secret Is in the Shade | Heritage Crossing

Heritage Crossing Shade Sandbox Development

Where can one gather safely, feel comfortable and have something for everyone? In the shade of course… Balancing the desire to gather outdoors with the necessity to limit sun exposure will quickly be a concern of many Valley residents as summer approaches and COVID stubbornly lingers. The recently-completed third Phase of Heritage Crossing in Mesa provides a creative solution – shade, and lots of it.

Armed with market research and buyer surveys, Woodside Homes tasked the design team at EPS Group to come up with a creative amenity solution that would allow the little ones to play, adults to relax and the teens to hang (with WIFI of course). The solution evolved into a series of “outdoor rooms” each with their unique purpose and all of them in the shade! Active play areas for the little ones are flanked by a gaming area complete with cornhole, ping pong and chess tables.

In the middle of it all are a series of seating nodes that accommodate intimate conversations without being isolated from the action. This allows for parents to converse while their little ones play safely in the adjacent (well shaded) playground. Older kids enjoy autonomy with outdoor gaming areas, seating nodes complete with charging outlets to stay fully connected. Up lighting the shade sails creates a subtle glow to the space and extends its usability into the evening. Sandbox is proud to deliver another successful project, ahead of schedule and under budget.
